Nihilus Rex, Ch. 38: Head in the Sand
Totally lost track of what day it was, this should have been posted yesterday.
There is a huge Easter Egg in here, and I can't wait for the reveal and payoff on it. @baelpenrose and I had a blast with this and the next chapter, just because of that little detail.
“Any updates from the mayor?” I asked, praying that the translation software would pick the right honorific for the person I was speaking to. After what happened in the church last week, I had buried my head - intentionally - in my water initiatives. Specifically the ones that I typically couldn’t work with if I was multitasking, due to language barriers.
Again, I was deliberately burying my head in work. It wasn’t anything I was clueless to.
“The mayor did not respond,” Ayanti responded. Which basically translated to ‘ask forgiveness rather than beg permission’.
“I’ll take it,” I responded as my phone vibrated. Nils.
I ignored it.
“How far can we push this?” I asked Ayanti. “If we are under tacit permission, assuming we don’t make him look bad?”
She hummed musically. “As far as you have resources, or until his borders run out.”
Immediately, I started tapping keys on a different machine, transferring funds. “Whole village, got it. Four hectares?”
“Three point five.”
“I’ll send enough for five.”
My phone went off again. Nils, again. Ignored. Again.
Laser focus on the issue at hand. “Were you able to see the file about the straws?” I asked.
“Are they ready for consumer?”
I paused and sighed audibly. Ayanti and I had worked together long enough that I refused to lie to her about things that were life or death to her. “They are in testing. Not ready for consumer release.”
“Can you get us four kay?”
My head snapped up to scowl at my monitor, despite the fact this was a fully voice call. “Four thousand? Ayanti. How bad is the water situation? Please don’t lie to me… we don’t lie to each other, right?”
The line fell silent for a moment and I took the time to set up the transactions for both the water filters and the straws. Legit filters were coming from the Gates Foundation through WHO and direct shipped to Daravi as a “charitable act” - no matter how large the company, good press and tax writeoffs almost guaranteed they’d never be reported. Plus they came with a steep discount, ordered by a paper-legit company with about ten shells behind it. So, about as legit as any other charity, really.
I fired off the filters on one machine and paid for them from the other. However, I held off on firing off the order for the straws. This would need some finagling, given that they were still in the testing phase. A couple labs, some money to grease palms. But it was blatant bribery, so I wanted to be sure before I pulled the trigger and sent down the labs involved.
I heard the line unmute just long enough to catch Ayanti taking a deep breath and sighing.
After a glance at a calender and some mental math, I grunted. “Yanti. Is this for monsoon season?”
She grunted wordlessly, but definitely in an affirmative. Someone could hear her, and she didn’t want to give away what she was doing. Which told me she was supposed to be mining for MMORPG gold, and this was therefore slacking off.
“I’ll contact them and have all the prototypes sent over. And any other company working on similar things,” I promised. “I’ll reach out when I have the exact quantity, but it should be far above four kay.”
“Deal.” With that, she disconnected.
Palming my face and rubbing it roughly, I vibrated with contained violence. Ayanti was in Mumbai, in the slums, and working from an internet cafe. I had no way of beating the breaks off her supervisor - most likely the owner of the cafe. So I needed to focus on what I could do.
Nine children, you could have stopped it.
I screamed in my head how hard I had tried. Begged Nils and Gray to send orders to fire higher. I tried.
A fist was shoved in my mouth. My left hand, trying to keep from screaming where Mama or Baba could hear me. I did what I could, I screamed in my brain. Digging my nails into my palms, I slapped a hand on my desktop. It forced me to bring my eyes to the monitor.
Four thousand prototype filter straws. Plus the legit water filters.
“Water filters first,” I mumbled, typing even as I dragged myself from my knees to the chair.
My phone went off again. I didn’t even look at this point. I just silenced it without a glance.
The email for the legit filters was easiest. It was the coding to get the prototypes to be shipped that took the longest. But, an hour later, I sat back with a sheen of satisfying sweat and surety that not four thousand but twelve thousand would be sent to Mumbai. It was only then that I glanced at my phone again.
More Nils.
I wasn’t necessarily avoiding him. At least not by design. I was sure it looked like I was avoiding him as I tried to claw back some concept of saving people. But I didn’t know how many the filters and straws would save, so I started stabbing code into the machine to transfer funds to medical research.
At some point, I threw my phone across the room. And still I stabbed at my keyboard, with such urgency that I had to hot-swap after a time that only could be described as ‘a haze’.
“ELAKSHI!” Mama’s voice broke in some time later. “Open this door RIGHT NOW, or I will take a hammer to it.”
“Mama, I’m working!” I shouted over my shoulder.
“You have been so-called-working for three days! Nils has called the house to confirm you are alive, and I need help with Baba.”
I groaned and stretched my neck. “I’m walking toward the door!” I shouted.
I did, too. I opened the door to see Mama staring at me in what could only be accusation.
“You stink, you look exhausted, and you clearly need food,” she scolded before walking away. It was only then that I realized that she had the phone receiver to her ear.
“WAIT!” I cried. “Is that Nils or Mori???”
“Whichever one makes you more guilty. Bathe and think on it, and I might tell you.”
Did I smell that bad? I sniffed my arm and nearly vomited. Okay, fair.
An hour later, I emerged, drying my hair and completely clean. “Check it out, I still know how to bathe!”
Mama was not impressed, at all. She sniffed. “You stink less. Sit. Eat.”
“Mama…”
“Nils and Mori called while you were ignoring the world,” she interjected. “And I know you did not eat for three days, because I know how many days you ignored me knocking on your door. And your phone.”
“It was important,” I insisted, only to be levelled with a dark-eyed glare.
“If it is so important, you need to be alive to carry it forward. Which means you need to care for yourself,” she scowled. The plate hit the table with a force that I was shocked to see broke neither table nor plate. “Eat. Give me your phone.”
“Mama -”
“Elakshi, I will sever power to this entire building if you do not give me your phone at this second and eat.”
My arm extended stiffly, palm flat, phone offered up like a mango.
She swiped it. “Better. Eat. I will tell Katherine and Nils that you are alive.”
“Katherine!???” I shouted. “Why Katherine!?”
“She called me, personally, asking.”
I shoved my spoon into the food before me. “Goddammit,” I muttered. “Mothers, always meddling.”
“If our children behaved like adults, we would not need to ‘meddle’ as you say,” Mama pitched over her shoulder in a mocking tone. “And I certainly would not need to threaten my youngest if she could only take care of herself like the woman she is and not the child she once was.”
Low blow. “I’m eating, I’m eating,” I conceded, stuffing bland food in my mouth and pointing at it emphatically.
Bringing a plate of her own and setting it down with significantly more care than she had practically thrown mine with, she sat straight and asked in her most prim tone. “And what part of the world are we saving today?”
“Clean water,” I answered. “Charity work. Monsoons are coming, so they need better resources.”
Mama nodded crisply. “This is a good work. And what part does Nils play in it?”
I stopped mid-bite in confusion. “Nils? He doesn’t have any part in this. It’s one of my independent projects.”
She shook her head and chuckled. “Katherine knew quite a lot for something that doesn’t involve her son.”
“How often do the two of you talk?” I asked in bewilderment. The confusion was enough to almost completely silence the voices tormenting me. Almost.
“Twice a week,” she nodded, taking another bite of food and gesturing for me to do the same. “Our children went through the same traumatic experience.”
“You went through the same traumatic experience, and then some.”
“Pah.” She waved the notion away. “Mothers worry, and we worry best together. Now eat and then either call your young man back, or tell me why you won’t.”
The horror at what we had done mixed sourly with the idea of talking to my mother about relationship issues. “I will message him after I eat,” I promised meekly, choosing the lesser of the two options.

Road Trip: 6,000 Km, 7 States, 2 Plates Of Kolhapuri Chicken, And 1 Orange
A short highway drive led to this blog post. Three of us drove down from Delhi to Goa via Udaipur and Mumbai. After getting sunburn for three days in Goa, we drove onwards to a town near Mangaluru to see the beaches.
No one gives a samosa these days, so this post will omit annoyances like scenery, sunset, wanderlust, the mountains-are-calling, and I-love-travel nonsense.
My mother is used to hearing unpleasant, unexpected things from people about me. When word reached her that I have decided to drive down south thousands of kilometres with some people from Delhi, with the possibility that I may drive back home alone for a few thousand kilometres more, she tried to change my mind.
"No, no, no," she said on the phone at night, far away from Imphal. "It's very dangerous. What if you get hurt in an accident, or worse?"
"Accidents happen all the time," I said. "But we will be fine," I told her, not entirely sure about that. Who can predict the future? After a while she agreed she would be cool about it.
Mothers are like that. But they will let you go eventually. They know that you, too, have been collecting years.
We set out for Udaipur from Delhi at 6 am. A lab in Jaipur, a city that falls on our route, agreed to take samples for COVID-19 test. Any cop at state borders could ask for an RT-PCR report even if you are fully vaccinated. Whatever the cop says is final when you are travelling by road, so we decided to be well-prepared. The only chai-paani I like is the one I have myself.
We reached Udaipur at 9 pm. For dinner, we ordered Rajasthani laal maans. This drive across seven states - Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka - opened up infinite possibilities of tasting the best food in each state.
We entered the Gujarat border at 10 am. A police officer stopped us to check documents and asked, "Carrying any daaru?" We said no, of course, and he let us through.
Next came the Godhra bypass, a state highway with a smooth surface and proper markings that made driving quite fun. The state highways in Gujarat are better than some national highways.
Baroda, Surat and hunger followed soon. We drove past dhaba after dhaba with "only veg" and "pure veg" signboards, until we found one with a poster that showed an omelette. This, we blamed the Bengali in the car.
Over 13 hours of driving put us right on the doorstep of Navi Mumbai. Pushing and fighting your way inside a coach in Delhi's busy Rajiv Chowk metro station is way easier than entering Mumbai during evening rush hour traffic.
There are two main routes from Mumbai to Goa. The first is a twisty old highway that passes through ghat roads, and the second is a straight run on the plains via Pune and Kolhapur. Many prefer the second route because why not? The old highway is full of potholes, back pain and feelings about taking a U-turn for home ASAP.
We stopped at Kolhapur bypass for Kolhapuri chicken. See for yourself in the photo below.
The road from Nipani in Karnataka all the way to the Goa border is narrow. But it was on this stretch that we liked stopping for tea and filter coffee.
We reached Goa at night on Day 3 after we drove out from Delhi.
Some days later we prepped for the ride to our next destination - Surathkal, a clean, green, and quiet beach town 20 km from Mangaluru in Karnataka.
Fish thaali in Karwar, on the Karnataka-Goa border, and filter coffee in Udupi really charged up the drive to Surathkal, where we reached in no time and stayed at a friend's house, just a 10-minute walk from a white, sandy beach.
We chilled at Surathkal for two days, visited Mangaluru and enjoyed ghee roast chicken and gadbad ice-cream.
When the time to return home came, a small but not an entirely unexpected problem presented itself like magic. See, I drove down with two friends all the way from Delhi, but they flew back to attend a wedding. A stern message came from home that either I find someone to ride shotgun on the return leg, or I give the car to Agarwal Packers and Movers and fly back. I cannot drive back alone, the serious people at home said.
The only person who came to mind was an old friend from school, who in Class 12 taught me how to drive a motorcycle wrong and wreck it. By now we go back a quarter of a century. I dialled him and presented the plan - he would fly down to Goa, stay for a day, and drive back with me to Delhi with a night's stop each in Mumbai and Udaipur. "You can eat anything you like, stop anywhere you like," I told him. It did the trick. He took a flight to Goa within 24 hours with only a small backpack.
The return leg did not play out any different than how we had come. We traced back the same routes. The Godhra bypass had excellent reflective markings that made driving at night safe. The Rajasthan-Gujarat border near Udaipur had similar safety features. These two stretches helped a lot in improving night driving skills.
That's all people. And about that orange, I forgot where I had kept it for the entire trip. When I finally reached home, it tumbled out from the magazine holder of the front seat.
Fin.
The fine print:
Vehicle: Maruti Suzuki Ignis 1.2 petrol manual, stock tyres upsized by 20 mm to 195/60/R15, Continental UC6
Total toll cost: Rs 5,210 (as per FASTag statement)
Total fuel cost: Rs 28,000 (approximate)
Best roads: Udaipur to Gujarat border, Udaipur-Jaipur highway, Godhra bypass, Mumbai-Pune expressway, Udupi to Surathkal highway
Worst roads: 30 km from Amboli ghat to north Goa border, exit from Navi Mumbai to Thane, Gurgaon-Jaipur highway (road surface is relatively smooth, but it's really bad for night driving due to absence of lane markings on the road; you can get blinded with oncoming headlights and not find directional help since the white lines on the road are missing)
Recommended dhabas and restaurants: Shree Mahalaxmi Seafood Restaurant, Kolhapur bypass; Shetty Lunch Home, Mangaluru; Cafe de Voyage, Margao; Laxmi Family Restaurant and Bar, Morjim.
Thanks to Ira, Jayashree, Munmun, Stella, Rajib, Smitha and Jayant for the company during the road trip and taking these photos.

Audiometric testing- Top advantages of this concept
When the occupational hazards of the noise will exceed the exposure indicated in the occupational health and safety requirements then people will be required to reduce the personal hearing protection devices so that they can reduce the risk of hearing loss perfectly. All such people are also required to participate adequately in the audiometric testing to ensure that the effectiveness of the hearing protection measures has been perfectly undertaken by them. In such cases, the audiometric testing will be required by them to be undertaken annually or after every two years depending upon the local occupational safety and jurisdictional requirements.
The audiometric testing being undertaken by the hearing test lab in Mumbai is considered to be the process of determining the workers hearing levels with the help of a tool called an audiometer. It can be a very simple procedure that will include employees receiving a series of different tones in which every tone has to be responded to by the participant indicating if they are hearing that tone or not. The tones will be present at different kinds of sound levels and have to be checked multiple times two identify the lowest level at which the people can hear. It can be considered as the threshold level and as compare to the baseline test. Automatic testing is considered to be undertaken for different kinds of frequencies of both left and right ears and as a result of this concept, it is the best possible way of monitoring the sharpness and acuity of the hearing over time.
This particular type of testing will identify the following things:
The progressive noise including the hearing loss before it becomes an impairment.
The temporary loss before it becomes permanent and provides the people with proper time to implement the right kind of remedial steps in the whole system.
The testing environment has to be completely controlled to ensure that testing has been effectively and accurately undertaken and in this particular testing environment optimal operations have to be performed and everything must be quiet and free from distractions. There should not be any kind of distracting activity outside the testing room which the listener can hear or see. The listeners always need to focus on the test and not any kind of activity around them. The audible speech will not affect the test tones but it can very easily distract the listeners. So, it is important to go with that particular type of specified settings where there is no noise apart from the tones of the test.
Following are the most important advantages of the audiometric testing systems:
The regularly scheduled audiometric testing systems will help in identifying the people who are at risk of any kind of hearing loss because it is very much capable of identifying the changes in their hearing threshold over time.
The entire employers can rely on these kinds of appropriate treatment plans when they will be very much clear about the hearing protection systems and will ensure that employees are utilising the hearing protection devices perfectly so that noises are reduced in the particular locations.
The audiometric testing systems are conducted at least a few hours before the shift of the employee to identify if there is any temporary threshold shift. The temporary threshold shift can show if the person is implementing the hearing protection and noise reduction strategies or if they are working effectively or not. This will make sure that concerned people will be able to take the right kind of corrective action all the time.
The typical hearing loss as a result of noise-induced hearing loss often will occur at the 3K, 4K and 6K frequency where the V shape does not have to be observed that will be visible on the audiometric graph and is known as the audiogram.
The audiometric testing will also help in assisting the individuals in terms of identifying the need for diagnosis of potential medical problems which are apart from the workplace hearing loss and can affect the ability of the people to hear normal voices and sounds.
The audiometry test will be performed to determine how well a particular person can hear this might be done as a part of routine screening in response to the noticeable loss of hearing. Some of the very common causes of loss of hearing include:
The chronic ear infections
The birth defects
Inherited conditions
Injury to the ears
To identify the disease of the ears
Regular exposure to loud noise or the ruptured eardrum
Damage to the ear or exposure to the sounds for a longer period can lead to ear loss which is the main reason that conducting the right kind of testing since the very beginning as a preventive measure is highly advisable for the people and it should be undertaken in the industries regularly. There are different kinds of tests being performed in this particular field of audiometry test will help in measuring the greatest sound which the people can hear at different kinds of pitches. The audiologist will be playing a variety of sounds for example tones and speech at different intervals of time into one ear at a time to determine the range of hearing. The concerned people will also give the instructions associated with every sound and they will also ask the people to rise and if the sound is audible. This will be assessing the ability to distinguish speed from background noise and simple ones will also be played for the people and people might also be asked to repeat the words with their hearing. The audiologist will be putting the metal device against the bone behind the ear and will be utilising the bone oscillator to determine how well the vibrations are passing through the bone of the inner ear. This is considered to be one of the best possible ways of ensuring that everything is in top-notch condition and the right kinds of corrective actions have to be taken by the people to improve their conditions. The audiometry in Mumbai is very important to be undertaken so that people are aware of things perfectly.

What is the need for Nutritional Analysis?
Often, we hear, nutritional food is key to improved health. Nutrition is the only element that allows our body to work well and feel energetic. There is ample information shared concerning nutrition, but what is nutritional analysis is not known to many of us. Nutritional analysis is the process that allows knowing the nutritional content of the food. This is one of the vital parts that allows knowing the elements in the product, quality control, and the contamination of food.Nutritional analysis and labelling is a way that allows the consumer to rely on a product. The nutritional analysis is done by certified labs to know the exact amount of nutrition available in the product. Nutritional analysis is vital and there are benefits of letting the product undergo nutritional analysis.
Allows to know the nutritional value of the food While a product is designed, fats, sugar, salt, proteins, and carbohydrates are the basics that are included in the product. It becomes necessary that every nutrient value is mentioned in the labelling. Nutritional analysis helps to know whether the product lack nutrition or not. Also, if the product doesn’t cater enough for nutrition, then analysis allows the FBO to know the necessary changes they need to make.
FBO get the right idea about the product As mentioned, nutritional value does allow checking whether the nutrition value meets the parameter or not. In case, there is a lack of nutrition, the FBO needs to consider the changes and again provide a sample for test. Food testing labs in India do check all the parameters concerning the nutritional value, food safety, and hygiene parameters to verify the product for consumption.
Better food fortification There are a few products such as baby food, pregnancy food that need to be fortified to meet the needs of the nutrition value. The nutritional labelling does have all the information concerning the actives and the non-actives in the product. When an FBO serves the food that is to be fortified, it is to be done in a manner that, benefits. The increase in the per cent of fortified substances can lead to tolerance of consequences.
Reduces foodborne disorder Nutritional analysis is not only conducted with the motive to know the nutrition value, though it is the primary reason, knowing about various factors such as fortification, and contamination also becomes necessary. Food testing labs in Mumbai India and across the country do check the product as per the mentioned parameters framed by FSSAI. The products that are designed and are likely to spread foodborne disorders are informed to the FBOs. Allowing the FBO to know the product designed is likely to get contaminated at the point or likely to influence the health negatively, helps to consider the designing of the product with some added information.
Allergens and other disorders Certain food products are designed for a certain set of people. Sugar-free products are offered for diabetes patient, while low sodium product is designed for hypertension patient and so on. If the sugar-free product does have ample sugar, which is not recommended, can be known in the analysis.Though the FBO is aware of the parameters, the Nutritional analysis is the right procedure to know whether the product suits the consumption purpose or not. Once the Nutritional analysis is done, Nutritional labelling is the right piece that consumers can check and refer to when it comes to knowing the values added.
Key Takeaways nutritional analysis does allow the FBO to know where they stand Allowing the product to go under such analysis allows knowing the alteration needed. Notifies FBO about certain parameters that can risk the lives of consumers.

ELECTRICIAN NEAR ME- What is an Electrician?
An electrician is a tradesman specializing in electrical wiring of buildings, transmission lines, stationary machines, and related equipment. Electricians may be employed in the installation of new electrical components or the maintenance and repair of existing electrical infrastructure. Electricians may also specialize in wiring ships, airplanes, and other mobile platforms, as well as data and cable lines.
When we refer to, “electricians,” we’re talking about tradespeople that install and repair wiring found in buildings and the various electrical systems found within them, including HVAC, security, lighting and computer network systems.
Today’s electricians can be divided into four main categories:
Residential Electricians – These electricians work in home dwellings that can range from single-family houses to large apartment complexes.
Commercial Electricians – Work sites can include office buildings, retail outlets, schools, hospitals, and industrial facilities that do not involve high-voltage. These electricians install and repair electrical systems found in existing commercial buildings, new construction, and renovation projects.
Industrial Electricians – These electricians perform maintenance and installation of electrical components and machinery found in industrial settings. This may include working with high-voltage electricity at industrial manufacturing locations.
Low Voltage Electricians – As their name implies, these electricians are involved with low-voltage systems that primarily include voice, data, and video (VDV) networks and systems. Inside the industry you may hear these professionals referred to as VDV electricians or Voice-Data-Video electricians. Their work typically focuses on phone lines and fiber optic cable repair and installation in any setting where these materials are used.
You will find that some states combine some of these classifications. For example, some states may combine residential and low voltage into one category. Others may combine commercial and industrial electricians into one category.
In addition to classifying electricians by role, they can be further subdivided into three additional categories based on experience and training:
Apprentice – These electricians-in-training work under the supervision of an experienced professional for a number of years before they reach the journeyman level
Journeyman – This status is awarded once an electrician completes their apprenticeship and is judged by a state-approved authority as being competent in their trade
Master – Master electricians are defined as those with years of experience as journeymen who have demonstrated high-level competence through a state-approved exam
As you might have guessed, each state’s electrician licensing regulatory agency defines the parameters and scope of duties for each of these levels.
A Historical Perspective on Electricians
Even though man didn’t master electricity until the 1880s – the time that saw the first central power stations – we’ve certainly understood its brute force since prehistoric times. In fact, many of the most important gods of mythology were those with the power to wield electricity in the form of lightning. While there may have been some close calls along the road to discovering how to make electricity work for humankind, it wasn’t until around 1600 that significant steps towards understanding electromagnetism were made. It was then that the English astronomer William Gilbert made the first recorded in-depth study of static electricity. At that time he found the best way of creating static electricity was by rubbing a cloth against amber, introducing the word “electro” to the English language, which is Greek for amber.
Finally, during a thunderstorm in 1752, Benjamin Franklin did his key-on-the-kite experiment that we all learned about in grade school, and with several other important figures of the day, major inroads were made towards mastering electricity. By 1875, the first electricians installed the first municipal street lighting system in Los Angeles, followed by Paris three years later. Even then those electricians still had somewhat of a divine nature.
Also of interest to note, up until about 1884 there was vigorous competition between the widespread adoption of alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC). Had it not been for the invention of the first transformer that year perhaps all of our houses today would be powered by direct current?
Fast-forward to the present and you find that most people take electricity for granted. However that doesn’t diminish the importance of electrician’s one iota.

PARAMEDICAL COURSES IN DELHI
Paramedical Courses : Are they specializations?
Akin to medicine, the field of paramedical science also has various specializations. After one has decided to become a "paramedic'' the next decision pertains to which specialization or course should one opt for. Here's a quick check list on the various options of Paramedical Courses in Delhi.
The paramedical industry is often termed as the backbone of the healthcare industry. Apart from doctors, surgeons and nurses, it is the paramedic personnel like lab technicians, imaging technologists, radiologists, physiotherapist etc. who ensure an accurate diagnosis, a successful medical procedure or a supportive treatment. Students can often get confused with the to them in terms of paramedical streams which translate into various courses.
These are few factors which one can delve on before deciding on a particular stream or course
What are the available paramedical options?
After completing Class 12th, one can choose a stream in Ophthalmic Technology, Medical Lab Technology, Allied Health Sciences, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Anesthesia, Dental Hygiene, Medical Imaging Technology, X-Ray Technology, Speech Therapy, Sports Medicine, Audiologist Technology to name a few. Here's a short brief on each of them.
Ophthalmic Technology- it is the science of testing eyesight. Training is given to determine if the eyes are having sight issues, figuring out the number for optical glasses etc.
Medical Lab Technology – it's the science of lab diagnostics. Students are trained to collect samples, test specimens of blood, urine, faeces, skin etc. for specific diseases and give accurate and correct readings and reports.
Physiotherapy- the science with deals with treatment of ligaments, muscles due to nervous or brain and injuries. Students are trained to help patients with various exercises and treatments that lead to pain management.
Occupational Therapy – this science is a cross between physiotherapy and psychology. Students are trained to help patients with injuries, trauma, limb replacements.
Anesthesia – this science deals with assistance to doctors for providing anesthesia or medicine for numbness of whole body or any particular body part, during medical procedures.
Dental Hygiene – science related to teeth disorders and diseases, Students are trained to assist dentists and dental surgeons.
Medical Imaging Technology- this is science of using magnetic waves for determining the problem in any particular part of the body. CT Scans, MRIs are all part of this technology where technicians operate highly sophisticated machines to generate accurate visuals of body organs, veins and nerves.
X-Ray Technology – science of using radio waves to understand damage or diseases of bones.
Speech Therapy- science that deals with helping patients with speech or clarity of speech. While few have birth defects others develop speech hampering due to some specific medical condition.
Sports Medicine- science that deals exclusively with injuries and support services to people engaged in sports.
Audiologist Technology- science that deals with hearing defects and deafness.
Identify the ideal college.
India presently has thousands of colleges offering various paramedical courses. One should check for affiliations, accreditations, courses offered, industry reputation, past placement record, faculty and infrastructure; before finalizing your option. Students should be clear on the type of course that is being offered by the college- whether it's a degree, diploma or certification course. This is because, all these courses have different durations, different fee structures and most importantly in each course different aspects of a particular subject are taught. Hence the value in the job market in terms of educational qualification are also different.
The Healthcare School, offers popular paramedical courses in Delhi.

A COVID-Safety Checklist for budding MSMEs amidst the pandemic - Food Testing, FSSAI Compliance & Hygiene Ratings in Mumbai
With the onset of the pandemic and the ensuing lockdown, the food business industry saw many ups & downs. Amidst the sudden full-stop for many big brand names, a bunch of local Micro, Small & Medium Food Enterprises saw a steep rise in demand as well as support from the government. It also seems the unlock and the post-COVID India will further guarantee the steady rise of such enterprises. So here is a checklist to help MSMEs help mark themselves COVID-Safe & Compliant to the various standards of India’s Food Industry. From FSSAI License to Food testing in Mumbai, we’ve got everything covered.
FSSAI Registration
The registration and licensing of food businesses in India are governed by its apex food regulator, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. FSSAI Registration is a basic license and it is required for all the FBO involved in the small-scale food business.
You can apply for FSSAI registration by submitting a Form A to the Food and Safety Department.
In case your food business has an annual turnover exceeding 12 lakhs you should consider applying for an FSSAI License too.
Food Testing in Mumbai
Food Testing involves a bunch of tests that determine the quality & standards of one’s food product and help the manufacturers to comply with FSSAI standards & better their product.
Nutritional Labelling
Under the regulations of the Indian nutritional labeling act, it has now become a mandatory aspect of every processed food product's packaging. Nutritional labels help in finding out all the essential attributes to be mentioned on packaged food products.
Shelf Life Testing
An essential step before launching or modification of any food/beverage product. Shelf-life is determined using two different types of tests; accelerated & normal, and helps manufacturers define ‘best before’ & ‘use by’ dates for consumers.
Sensory Evaluation
Sensory Analysis helps manufacturers and marketers in the decision-making process by precisely evaluating a consumer’s food or beverage based on the senses like sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing, and feelings. Experts at Equinox can help you understand how the Sensory Evaluation process works and how the analysis can help improve your products' customer experience.
To know more about these tests and how they help improve your product, achieve complete COVID Safety & FSSAI Compliance, you can visit the Food Safety in Mumbai website.
Hygiene Auditing
Hygiene Audits form a crucial point in the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) of any FBO identifying the level of compliance with FSSAI basic food safety and hygiene standards. They ensure; an extensive inspection of your food processing facility, Identify any possible loopholes in the company’s FSMS, help establish an absolute Food Safety Management System, reduce the risk of manufacturing substandard products & promote a healthy brand reputation.
Food Safety Training
Being one of the most essential services, the food industry has to take special precautions to stay safe from the Coronavirus. The regulator, in order to ensure the same, introduced a mandatory ‘Awareness Training’ under its FoSTaC program. The training covers vital topics including; Understanding Corona Virus & COVID-19: Symptoms, Spread, Responsibilities of Food Business Operators (FBO), Preventive Measures to be taken by FBOs of different Food Sector, & other important precautions as suggested by the Government
COVID-Safety Audits
Many Food & Hygiene auditing companies have introduced COVID safety audits to help food businesses put into place and test COVID safety measures & standards. India’s Largest Auditing Company, Equinox Labs, has introduced a special COVID Safety Audit that defines the various COVID safety measures and audits the processes to certify your facility as COVID-prepared. There are also many other initiatives like Safe Place to Eat, Hygiene Quotient, Hygiene Rating, etc. that can help in not just ensuring but also a certifying COVID-safety.
Once you are done ticking off the above requirements, your MSME would be not just FSSAI Compliant but also COVID-Safe. Find out more about these processes and help ease navigation through these processes, visit Food Testing in Mumbai.
The current situations have proven that local MSMEs have a large number of opportunities coming up promising growths in unpredictable ways. It would be wise not to leave any stone unturned or measures ignored that could hamper the growth process.
Best of Luck!

If covid-19 takes hold in India the toll will be grim
It is poor, crowded, short of doctors and equipment and rife with exacerbating diseases. It was called the Spanish influenza, but given the number of Indians it killed, the flu pandemic of 1918-19 should perhaps have carried a different name. Some 18m are thought to have died, or 6% of the country’s population at the time. A century later, with covid-19 lapping at India’s now far more crowded shores, fears are rising that the world’s second-most-populous country could again bear a disproportionate share of the global agony. Until now, India has been lucky with this coronavirus. Despite the proximity of China there is only modest human traffic between the Asian giants, a result of chronically strained relations. Nor do many travellers visit India from other early centres of the pandemic, such as Iran and Italy. Partly as a result, India has registered fewer than 200 cases so far, and only three deaths. Most of those testing positive acquired the virus outside the country. Indian governments, both central and state, have also been strikingly forceful in their response. They were quick to restrict travel from afflicted areas and apply basic screening at airports. India has also airlifted—and closely monitored the health of—hundreds of its own citizens from stricken spots such as Wuhan, Tehran and Milan. Public information campaigns have saturated every television channel; recorded messages even interrupt calls on India’s 900m mobile phones. Across most states, schools and universities have been shut and public events cancelled. Kerala in the far south, a state with a record of excellence in public health, has gone further. Volunteers now deliver free school lunches directly to homes, while kerbside basins have been installed at even the remotest rural bus stations to encourage hand-washing. To enforce adherence to individual isolation orders, health authorities farther north in Maharashtra are stamping hands in indelible ink with the word “Home Quarantined” and an expiry date. Health officials insist that they have managed to limit infections to people who were exposed to the virus abroad and their immediate contacts within India. In some places, they have been assiduous in finding and isolating those at risk. One case in Kerala, where success in stemming an outbreak of the far deadlier Nipah virus in 2018 has built institutional expertise, involved tracing nearly 1,000 people who had come in contact with a single family. But not all states are as efficient. Border screening varied between entry points and never amounted to more than taking the temperatures of passengers—a dragnet a covid-carrier could slip through by taking paracetamol, a doctor grumbles. Many also note the paucity of testing data. Due to the cost and relatively small supply of testing kits, plus the limited capacity of government labs and a commendable desire to control the complex testing process so that it does not itself become a vector for the virus, India has so far only tested some 11,500 people. This compares with 270,000 in South Korea, a country with a fraction of the population. And because the testing protocol has focused so heavily on travellers, it has become what one expert calls a self-fulfilling prophecy, detecting only cases with foreign origins. “I suspect that if we did 20 times more tests we might find 20 times more cases,” says Ramanan Laxminarayan of Princeton University. “I personally think we are already in the thousands if not tens of thousands.”
Should the virus have indeed slipped past India’s barriers, there is little reason to think it will follow a different course from elsewhere. That would put India’s epidemic about two weeks behind America’s and perhaps a month behind Italy’s. That is alarming, given how poorly prepared India is. Decades of under-investment in public health—recent budgets have averaged a meagre 1.3% of gdp—have left it with a thin and creaky system (see chart). There are not enough doctors, not enough beds and not enough equipment for the country’s 1.3bn people, even in ordinary times. Moreover, these scant resources are unevenly distributed. Excellent private hospitals and prestigious public medical schools mean that big cities such as Delhi and Mumbai may be reasonably served. But in 2017 some 63 children suffering from encephalitis died when the oxygen supply ran out at a state-run hospital in Gorakhpur, a drab provincial city near the border with Nepal. India’s 100,000-odd intensive-care beds, which cater to perhaps 5m people a year, could be faced with that many in a month. The public is not well prepared either, particularly for a disease that primarily afflicts the lungs, and is more severe in patients with pre-existing conditions. The prevalence of both extreme air pollution and drug-resistant tuberculosis do not bode well. Indians also account for an estimated 49% of the world’s diabetics. Widespread poverty not only exacerbates such diseases, it makes it practically impossible for many Indians to leave jobs or to work at home. All too often, anyway, those homes are too tiny and crowded to allow for “social distancing”. In many cases there is not even any way to wash properly: some 160m Indians do not have access to clean water. The potential for a dire outcome is glaring. Yet as Mr Laxminarayan notes, India has a talent for pulling together for colossal “non-routine” events, such as massive weddings and political rallies. Others hope that the novel coronavirus will take a battering from the looming and ferocious summer heat. (That is true of some other ailments, but may not be for covid-19). On the streets, meanwhile, it is common to hear the whimsical opinion that Indians are already so toughened by hardship that this virus won’t hurt them. Then, for the truly fervent, there are magic cures. At a recent event in Delhi, members of a fringe cult celebrated the curative properties of cow urine. “It should be served to all tourists on arrival to cure them, for the protection of India,” enthuses Rajeev Kumar of the All-India Hindu Mahasabha, a Hindu nationalist group. “We are even sending a little pack to President Trump, to keep him safe from corona!” Read the full article
